Now
With Screen Captures: Kristen Bell At The Emmys!
Kristen
Bell (Veronica) was one of the guests at the 2005 Emmy Awards
honoring the best in television. The show aired on CBS September
18.
Kristen
participated in an "Emmy Idol" performance where she
sung the theme song to Fame. Sadly, KB didn't win, even
though she was surely the best, though we may be biased here at
Neptunesite.
(Interesting
VM trivia for you: Erica Gimpel, who plays Wallace's mother
Alicia Fennel, played "Coco" on the original Fame
TV series, and, unless the Internet Movie Database is mistaken,
Ms. Gimpel was the one who originally performed the theme music
for the television series back in 1982!)
Mr.
Video has provided us with some screen captures from Kristen's
performance which you can find in a gallery by clicking
here. We also have a special treat for you... a
sound file of Kristen Bell performing "Fame" at the
Emmys! Please right click to save; and don't hotlink to
the sound file.

Charity
Auction Gives Fans A Chance To Win Veronica's Choker, Set Visit,
& More
We here at Neptunesite just received an e-mail about
a special event that's happening this Saturday (August 20) that
will include an auction featuring several high-profile Veronica
Mars items. Instead of condensing it into article form, here,
we'll just share the e-mail:
Dear
Neptunesite Webmaster:
I
wanted to let you know about a special charity event that will
be taking place this Saturday, August 20 at the AMF Rocket Lanes
in Chatsworth, California, featuring several great auction items
from Veronica Mars.
First
of all the charity event is the Third Annual Zeke Lerner Celebrity
Bowl-A-Thon (BAT), benefiting Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy,
a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, that is the #1 genetic killer
of children under the age of 2.
You
can learn more about the BAT at the following website: http://www.bowl4fsma.org/
After
two rounds of bowling, there will be a large live auction, featuring
items from shows such as Buffy, Joan of Arcadia, Lost and Veronica
Mars. I felt it only right that the folks at Neptunesite are
aware of the great items that were donated to the BAT by the
show.
1.
Veronicas favorite choker - the one she wore all season.
2.
A visit to the set.
3.
A walk on role.
It
is not mandatory to participate in the BAT in the form of a
bowling team, as spectators are more than welcome and actually
encouraged. The cost for adults, with a pay at the door option,
is $25.00. You can find more details on attendance costs at
the above website.
I
sure hope that you can pass this information on to the Veronica
Mars fans.
A
fellow and devoted fan,
Lee
Ann Gradwell
Good
luck to those who may participate!

Confirmed:
Kevin Smith on Veronica Mars!
On
Friday, Wendy sent us the tip that it was heard on the radio that
popular director Kevin Smith (of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing
Amy, Dogma, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back fame)
might going to be showing up on an episode of Veronica Mars
in Season 2, and that the episode would be filming "this
week."
We
can now confirm this. Kevin will be playing convenience store
clerk Duane Anders in an episode airing on October 5. (For
more Season 2 spoilers, click here)
For more on Kevin Smith, swing by News
Askew.
Smith
and his hetero lifemate sidekick Jason Mewes made appearances
earlier this year on the Canadian cult teen series Degrassi:
The Next Generation. Last season, Joey Lauren Adams, best
known for Smith's movie "Chasing Amy," made an appearance
on Veronica.

Veronica
Mars Soundtrack Coming September 27?
We've
just received some good news from a member of the band 46bliss.
Their track "The Way You Are" was heard in the episode
"The Silence of the Lamb."
Here's
what they had to say:
We're
trying to stay in touch with the various VM sites, as we're in
indie band in NYC and the exposure and contact with VM fans has
been fantastic for us.
The
great news is that our song will be on the Veronica Mars Soundtrack
CD, which we understand will be released on Sept. 27th, the day
before the show's season premiere. We're going to do a show in
New York to celebrate, and all fans are invited! Not sure who
else is going to be on the album, but I do know it will be coming
out on Nettwork Records.
Obviously
this is news we weren't aware of here at Neptunesite prior to
this, so we'll post more as soon as we know more. Even if September
27 doesn't turn out to be the date of release, it's exciting news
that a Veronica soundtrack is coming, isn't it?
You
can order the 46bliss album on Amazon.com by clicking
here. A Veronica Mars soundtrack is not yet listed
on the site. 46bliss also tells us that one of their songs, "In
A Long Time," is available for free download here.

Fan
Fundraiser For Kristen Bell's Favorite Charity
To
celebrate the upcoming second season, a group
of fans is raising money to benefit one of Kristen Bell's
favorite causes - an animal shelter.
The
East
Valley animal shelter in North Hollywood is the recipient
of the fan fundraiser, which has already collected over $200.
But of course, that's not nearly enough!
Animal
shelters are a cause that is near and dear to Kristen. She is
a big believer in adopting animals from shelters. She even did
a PSA urging people to adopt, instead of buy, their next pet.
For much more information, and where to donate, visit the fundraiser

Veronica
Mars Season 1 Had A Backup Killer
No,
nothing to do with Veronica's dog... some recent quotes at Zap2It.com
(warning: season 1 finale spoilers) revealed that, if the guilty
party of "who killed Lilly Kane" had been leaked onto
the Internet or was known among fans, there was a backup plan
for someone to be the killer - and that person would have been
Duncan (Teddy Dunn).
"If
I had to evolve it one more level, if there had to be one more
twist -- and I think it would have been one twist too many --
it was that Duncan really did it and that he hadn't blacked out
and that he was very aware of what he did and that he played his
parents," creator Rob Thomas said at the site. "That
was, had it leaked and I wanted to say, 'OK, new script pages,'
which I think would have really bummed Teddy Dunn out."
Teddy
was surprised to learn the news. "Really?" he said.
"He never told me that. Thanks, Rob. That shows me how expendable
I am on this show. Everybody can come and go. Nobody's above anything,
except for Kristen."
Teddy
did reveal that he did know more than most of the other cast members
because of Duncan's role in the mystery. "It was fun to know
some things that the other cast members didn't. I had Kristen
going for a while that Rob had confided to me and only me who
the murderer actually was and she was really pissed off."

Max
Greenfield At WB Party
Max
Greenfield (Deputy Leo) was spotted at the WB's 2005 TCA All-Star
Party on Friday night, July 22. Neptunesite's Craig Byrne caught
up with Max (a very cool guy by the way!) and was able to get
some quotes from "Deputy Leo" himself. Here's what Max
had to say:
"I
will tell you this, from an outside perspective, I came in as
an outsider and in the middle of the season, and they already
built something that was really working so well. You know, they
created in TV what they like to call a hit. They really created
something, and obviously there's such a following for it, and
to come in at the mid-season and reap kind of the benefit that
they have created is always an odd situation, and there was not
a person on that set that was not welcome and not the nicest people
in the world."
Max
had nice things to say about everyone, from Kristen all the way
through to the grips, the PA's, and the entire staff. He said
that Rob Thomas has been great about the possibility of leaving
Deputy Leo in that "universe," and we shouldn't be surprised
if we see him again on the show.
You
can next see Max Greenfield on Modern Men, a new sitcom
premiering on the WB in midseason. We'll let you know when we
know of an air date.

Veronica
Mars Season 1 Coming To DVD October 11!
Warner
Home Video has announced that the first season of Veronica
Mars will be available on DVD on October 11, 2005.
The
Season 1 set includes an alternate version "creator's cut"
of the TV pilot, plus 25 minutes of deleted scenes! Episodes will
appear in 1.78 Widescreen transfers, which many of us didn't get
to see on the original TV airings. (NOTE: We are hearing
conflicting reports on widescreen vs. fullscreen. The Warner Video
site claimed Widescreen, but some fans are reporting otherwise.
Stay tuned!)
To
your left you can take a look at the box art for the set. Keep
in mind that it is subject to change.
Thanks
to everyone who e-mailed us to tell us this news, and to TVShowsOnDVD.com
who actually got the "scoop" by posting this information
before the WHV press release came out.
Here's
how Warner Home Video describes the first season:
"In
the wealthy, seaside community of Neptune, California, the rich
and powerful make the rules. Unfortunately for them, there's Veronica
Mars, a smart, fearless 17-year-old apprentice private investigator
dedicated to solving the town's toughest mysteries. Veronica used
to be one of the popular girls, but it all came crumbling down
around her after her best friend, Lilly, was murdered, and her
then-sheriff father, Keith, was removed from office for naming
Lilly's rich father as the lead suspect. During the day, Veronica
must negotiate high school like any average teenage girl. But
at night, she helps with her father's struggling, new private
investigator business--and what she finds may tear the town of
Neptune apart at the seams."
We'll
let you know when the set is available to pre-order from Amazon.com
and other online retail outlets.
