We are sad and disappointed to say that The WB Network has passed on Dark Shadows, and it is unlikely that the series itself will see the light of day. This website will continue to exist in the event there are any updates to share; fans are invited to post in the Message Forum. In the meantime, since there won't be any new Shadows this year, you may want to check out the Original Series and see why people really fell in love with the Dark Shadows concept in the first place.

If any references below talk about the series as if it is still happening, it is because the articles were written prior to The WB's announcement. If you have any news regarding the Dark Shadows pilot, please e-mail us.

The Show

Dark Shadows

Produced by Dan Curtis (The Original Dark Shadows, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, War and Remembrance) and John Wells (Third Watch, ER, The West Wing)
Pilot written by Mark Verheiden (Smallville, Timecop)

The Concept
On the surface, a Gothic drama with a vampire. Romance, mystery, intrigue, and tales of science fiction all are added bonuses. Click here for some spoilery details about the show's characters.
Premiere Date
Dark Shadows is now being edited together and the WB will soon make their decision on if they're going ahead with a series. If the show is picked up, it could air in Fall 2004.
Merchandise

The "Columns" section of Barnabas Undead invites fans to offer their opinions on the show, sometimes humorous, sometimes serious. Either way, the opinions inside belong solely to the writer, and are not necessarily the feelings of Barnabas Undead as a whole in any way.

Would you like to write a column? Send them in! By writing, know that you are giving us permission to post and edit the editorial if necessary, but of course if there are ever any changes, we WILL let you know, and we will give final approval to the original authors.

Shadows Casting Over Collinwood
Written by Craig Byrne - BarnabasUndead.com Webmaster

Stuart Manning's Collinwood.net had surveyed its readers for who they would like to see on the new Dark Shadows, since casting has not yet been completed. They received replies from many fans and professionals from the original series, including former "Maggie" Kathryn Leigh Scott and "Eve" Marie Wallace. To read who the fans at that site would like to see, click here.

And who are our choices for the new Dark Shadows? Only a few, but considering this site's Smallville connection, it's only fitting that several of our choices came from that other WB show. Here are some of our choices:

Barnabas Collins - Ian Somerhalder. Mentioned in my previous column, Ian's turn as "Adam" in recent episodes of Smallville have cemented his rightness for the role. Plus, he fits in with the genuine "WB hottie" stereotype, and as a bonus, this guy can actually act. With Fearless being DOA, how about giving this guy his own show while the Smallville fans are still high on him? Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), it sounds like John Wells will be shooting older for the role. But Ian would be a great Barnabas indeed.

Carolyn Stoddard - Sarah Carter. Another Smallville alum, recently appearing in the episode "Obsession." She could even possibly be an Angelique, but we actually think she might be better for this big Dark Shadows female role. Again, instant fan following. Some people even suffered through Black Sash just to see her.

Willie Loomis - Tom Lenk. I first saw this suggested at the Dark Shadows Forums at dsboards.com, and just loved the idea. Also familiar to the audience, Tom played goofy nerd Andrew for the final seasons of Buffy. His approach would be a lot of fun for the character of Willie Loomis.

Elizabeth Collins Stoddard - Kathleen Turner. This suggestion was posted at Collinwood.net by "Maggie" Kathryn Leigh Scott, and I just couldn't agree more. Check the picture of her at the Collinwood site and tell us we're wrong.

Sheriff Patterson - Mitchell Kosterman. If this series is indeed filming in Vancouver, Smallville's former "Sheriff Ethan" would be great to take on a sheriff role again. Hey, this guy was on X-Files! Enough reason for me.

And those are just five choices from the dozen or so characters that we'll see on the new series. All readers are invited to post their own ideas on the Barnabas Undead forum at KryptonSite.
